Shaye K. Friesen

Section Head – Preparedness, Resilience and First Responders at DRDC Centre for Security Science
Mr. Shaye K. Friesen is the Section Head – Preparedness, Resilience and First Responders at Defence Research and Development Canada’s (DRDC) Centre for Security Science. He has responsibility and oversight for science and technology (S&T) program formulation and delivery across multiple domains, such as: community resilience research; natural hazards; emergency alerting; wireless communications; and Tri-Service/first responder technology supports. In this capacity, he provides leadership and guidance to staff, and delivers results by managing a multi-million dollar S&T portfolio, a large component of contractors, multiple project teams, community engagement and international partnerships. Prior to this appointment, he served as the First Secretary, Defence Research and Development at the Embassy of Canada in Washington D.C. from 2017 to 2021, where he developed strategic partnerships and advanced Government of Canada priorities around innovation, interoperability and rapid technology development.
